Lewis Hamilton said he'd never seen a car as fast as the Red Bull RB19 after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. And he wasn’t only talking about its all-round performance. For Hamilton was also amazed at the speed differential when Max Verstappen overtook him at the end of lap 11, breezing past on the run to the first corner. Yes, Verstappen had the DRS open and Hamilton’s was closed, but even so it was a big difference of as much as 34 kilometres per hour - as much as twice what might traditionally be expected. That’s led to questions about what clever trick Red Bull might be using to achieve this effect. Серхио Перес и так выглядит крайне конкурентноспособным на городских трассах, а при отсутствии Макса, соперников у него почти не осталось. На старте Алонсо удалось вырваться в лидеры гонки Ф1 уже к первому повороту, однако радость была недолгой, ведь буквально через пару кругов появилось сообщение о том, что Фернандо получил штраф в виде 5 секунд за неправильное расположение болида на решетке. Серхио оставался на втором месте ровно до того момента пока судьи не разрешили использовать ДРС. Как только мексиканец начал активировать заднее антикрыло у Алонсо просто не осталось шансов удержаться впереди. В это время позади Леклер и Ферстаппен прорезали пелетон, последовательно обгоняя одного соперника за другим. Если скорость Макса объясняется огромным преимуществом Ред Булл над всеми остальными, то вот Шарль, в первую очередь, обязан такому прорыву шинам софт, ведь единственный из всего пелетона рискнул поставить их на первый отрезок гонки formula1 Но помимо прогресса в работе с резиной наблюдаются улучшения и с точки зрения стратегии. Сайнс потерял позицию относительно Стролла в самом начале гонки, и на протяжении всего первого отрезка так и не смог вернуть её обратно. Феррари принимают решение совершить оверкат. Мало того, что Карлос вернулся на трассу с преимуществом над канадцем в 4 секунды, дак помимо этого впереди оказался ещё и Леклер, который до остановок отставал от этой пары примерно на такое же время. Правда спустя пару кругов Стролл сойдёт с дистанции из-за проблем с двигателем. После схода канадца на трассе появляется сейфтикар, а это означает, что все те, кто ещё не успел остановиться к тому моменту получили возможность совершить бесплатный питстоп. С этого момента можно сказать, что гонка пошла по крайне предсказуемому сценарию. Распределение мест напрямую зависило от чистого темпа машин. Пилоты, взабравшиеся на высокие места за счёт обстоятельств начали терять позиции относительно тех, кто номинально считался быстрее. За несколько кругов до конца радио активизировалось не только у Ред Булл, но и у Мерседес, которые начали намекать Расселлу на то что Фернандо может получить штраф. На тот момент ещё не до конца было понятно что же теоретически может стать причиной наказания Алонсо. Но уже после подиума формула-1 нам показывают сообщение о том, что Фернандо был наказан десятью секундами за неправильное отбывание штрафа, а значит третье место уходит Джорджу. Астон Мартин не захотели мириться с несправедливостью и подали протест, в котором в качестве аргументов к неоднозначности трактования формулировок добавили ещё и факт того, что штраф был выписан спустя 30 кругов после самого инцидента. He isn’t the first driver to ignore team orders and he won’t be the last either, but his complete disregard for Checo’s achievements and his apparent belief he is above the rest of his team has not gone down well with a lot of fans and pundits. Несмотря на уверенный проход в третий сегмент квалификации, навязать равную борьбу Ред Булл и Феррари новому лидеру Астон Мартин так и не удалось. Но по крайней мере Фернандо утешил болельщиков победой над Мерседес, что в любом случае является крайне достойным результатом. Впереди же темп задавали действующие чемпионы мира, и видимо осознав, что по чистой скорости сражаться с ними не получится, Леклер посчитал, что будет лучше провести всего лишь одну попытку в третьем сегменте, чтобы сохранить свежий комплект софта уже на гонку, и постараться добиться результата стратегией. Из-за этого он пропустил вперёд Чеко Переса, таким образом полностью подарив Ред Булл первый ряд. В начале гонки задумка Скудерии действительно начала идти по плану. Мексиканец замешкался на старте и вернул позицию Шарлю, параллельно с этим попав под атаки со стороны Сайнса. За несколько следующих кругов Серхио стабилизировал свой темп и начал отъезжать от испанца, но вот до Леклера дотянуться так и не удавалось. Все начало меняться после первой волны питстопов. Ни в Феррари ни в Мерседес были не способны настолько бережно работать с резиной как в Ред Булл, и к сожалению за межсезонье эту ситуацию они так и не исправили. Благодаря этому Серхио закономерно обогнал Шарля за счёт разницы по резине на втором отрезке, и примерно всю вторую половину дистанции Макс и Чеко ехали в сберегающем режиме, о чем их попросила команда. Но на этом для Мерседес и Феррари кошмар только начинался. На 41-ом круге у Леклера возникли проблемы с аккумулятором и блоком управления силовой установки, что привело к немедленному сходу. У Мерседес хоть и нет проблем с надежностью, зато есть с темпом. За время пока Расселл застрял за Хэмилтоном, к нему подъехали оба Астон Мартин. Но вместо того чтобы помочь британцу удержать свою позицию за счёт андерката, первым Мерседес почему-то зовут именно Льюиса, и пока тот находится в боксах, Расселл теряет позицию относительно Алонсо. На втором отрезке ситуация не лучше. Медленно но верно, испанец догоняет Хэмилтона на трассе, в Мерседес, боясь угрозы андерката, снова останавливают Льюиса первым, но почему-то угроза андерката со стороны Стролла их несколько не пугала, а зря, ведь кругом спустя, когда в боксы поехал Джордж, Лэнс за счёт ранней остановки смог отыграть от него все отставание, и благодаря прогретой резине без труда выйти вперёд. Ну а Хэмилтон, несмотря на все защитные меры, все равно отдаст позицию Алонсо на трассе. Следующей целью Фернандо был Сайнс. Испанца просили взвинтить темп, однако Карлос в открытую дал понять, что из-за ужасной работы их машины с резиной, ему банально не хватит шин до финиша если при обороне от Алонсо он начнёт выжимать из них все что есть.
