Black Magic Design keeps making Davinci Resolve 17 better and better. In the 17.4 Release they opened hardware accelerated encoding for h.265 and h.264 to the FREE edition in Windows. This is amazing for free edition users who haven't been able to leverage their NVENC, QuickSync or AMD Encoder processors. Thank you Black Magic Design for continuing to develop this fantastic NLE video editor. What is Quick Sync? What is NVENC? Well today we compare the Intel Quick Sync UHD 770 vs NVENC. Though when you buy an Intel CPU (besides the F variant) and or a GPU, you most the time get an onboard encoder/decoder that is a powerful tool that can help boost your productivity. However in order to save a a quick buck, a lot of people opt for the F variant CPU or CPU without an iGPU, (i.e. i7-12700KF instead of i7-12700K), and for purely gaming, that is always a smart choice, only buy what you need. Though if you are a creator then I think that is a big mistake, and even if you have a dedicated GPU, like an RTX 3080, then it's still extremely beneficial to get an iGPU like the UHD 770 or UHD 730 (found in the i5-12400). So in today's video I will be going over the top four reasons why I personally need quick sync in my life, with OBS streaming and gaming benchmarks included (QSV vs NVENC vs RAW vs x264 CPU only). The results are interesting! Chapters 00:00 What is Quick Sync and how to enable it. 01:47 This is by far my favourite benefit, extend basically a whole other desktop off one computer. 03:45 Quick Sync for video editing in premiere pro, i7-12700K vs KF, i5-12400 vs F variants. 05:29 Gaming Benchmarks whilst streaming, Fortnite, Apex Legends and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with quality comparison. 09:31 4th Benefit! My GPU activity was flat few moments back and GPU utilization was 0%. From OBS output recording settings, available encoder option was only x264. NVIDIA NVENC Encoder was missing. Also Adobe Media Encoder was displaying only one option in renderer. That was "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only". "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)" option was missing from Adobe Media Encoder or any other related Adobe software. It was also missing from Adobe Premier PRO. Now you know when you have dedicated GPU in system, you should use GPU (Hardware Acceleration) instead of CPU (Software Acceleration) wherever possible. GPU is used in graphics work, video editing work, gaming and during render or taking video output. I have fixed the NVENC issue from PC and now I can see "NVIDIA NVENC Encoder" in OBS and "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA) in Adobe Media Encoder render settings. I can not go back and show you the steps to fix NVENC encoder in OBS. But I can show you what did I do to fix NVENC Codec and how can you do it too? In case of NVENC not working, NVENC not working after driver update, can't use NVENC encoder for OBS or Adobe Premier or NVENC stopped working in your PC, this video is the answer. If any software failed to open nvenc codec, watch this video. In case of nvenc error, this technique will help. If any app failed to open nvenc codec, this is solution. If handbrake nvidia nvenc not working, this is the solution. You dont need to search nvidia nvenc download or nvenc driver windows 10. GeForce Experience will handle it. If you press record button on OBS and OBS says: "Failed to open NVENC Codec" or it says: "If you are using NVENC or AMD Encoders, make sure your video drivers are up to date", it does not mean to go and select x264 option as encoder and continue whatever you were doing. x264 option will utilize your PC CPU (software acceleration) and will cause your PC to lag or respond slow overall. If you can not see option NVENC as encoder, it means your GPU (NVENC Codec) is missing from the system. Fix that instead of using CPU (x264). Fix GPU Error. Fix NVENC error. I tell you what caused problem with my GPU. GeFore Experience app update appeared and I installed it. After that, my NVIDIA NVENC Codec went missing from system and apps. GPU was showing in task manager but without any activity. If your GPU is also missing, or you can not see NVIDIA NVENC codec in apps like OBS and Adobe Premier, do this: Go to GeForce Experience app settings Select the checkbox in downloads area that says: "Automatically download driver updates and let me choose when to install." After that restart PC Open GeForce Experience app again and wait for few minutes Visit Drivers area You will receive another update notification I received update notification for "NVIDIA RTX / Quadro Desktop and Notebook Driver" I installed it But it told me to restart again After restart, minimal graphics were loaded, that means system resolution was less than usual Then this GPU driver was installed and my NVENC Codec problem was fixed OBS started showing NVIDIA NVENC and Adobe Premier displayed Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA) in renderer selection drop down. Note that You will update two software / apps One is Nvidia GeForce Experience app And second is your GPU Driver GeForce Experience will find and bring the GPU driver itself in its interface Do not download GPU driver manually Let GeForce Experience app do this job for you So, in short, make sure, GeForce Experience and GPU specific software / drivers are updated in the system, and when it asks to restart, restart. Do not shutdown and start PC. After restart, it will update GPU driver by modifying desktop graphics settings that it requires. Let Nvidia GeForce Experience app fix NVENC codec encoder issue. Don't try and install GPU driver manually. Wait for GPU driver update notification to appear in GeForce Experience app automatically. Nvidia’s RTX 4090 releases soon and OH MY is this the most incredible graphics card I’ve ever used. In fact, it’s more of a performance uplift for my work than I got buying a RTX 3090 from my RTX Titan. So why is everyone so mad about the price? Well… because it’s not supposed to be a GeForce card at all… this is still a Titan in all but the name, and it’s perfect for Titan-class workflows. Blackmagic Design has integrated GPU acceleration for advanced video editing and visual effects, including several exciting AI-based features in DaVinci Resolve Studio 16 creative app. Video editors can now create high-quality, smooth slow motion without high-speed camera footage using Speed Warp. They can color and refine facial features using Face Refinement and easily remove objects from video using Object Removal and much more functions. These effects and tools are accelerated with NVIDIA CUDA and Tensor Cores empowering editors to produce high quality videos in seconds instead of hours and iterate faster than ever before. With RTX laptops video professionals can take advantage of these powerful features wherever they need to be. To learn more about RTX laptops and Davinci Resolve, please visit the links below: 🤍 🤍
I've used Nvidia's "NvEnc" GPU video encoder for my content creation on a daily basis for quite a few years now. But when it comes to low-bitrate live streaming, there's always been a trade-off of lower quality for higher performance compared to X264 CPU encoding. That is... UNTIL NOW! I put Nvidia's new RTX/Turing architecture's NvEnc improvements to the test vs x264. 💻 Sample Clip Downloads: 🤍 (NOTE: The Halo clips are mostly 30FPS due to an issue on my OBS config. This is (hopefully) the last video I make on the subject for a while, but I'm still getting questions about how the "New NVENC" introduced in OBS v23 differs from the old way of doing NVENC, how it compares to x264, and how any of this relates to the quality increase on RTX cards.
