War (originally called Eric Burdon and War) is an American funk-rock band from Long Beach, California, known for several hit songs (including "Spill the Wine", "The World Is a Ghetto", "The Cisco Kid", "Why Can't We Be Friends?", "Low Rider", and "Summer"). Formed in 1969, War is a musical crossover band that fuses elements of rock, funk, jazz, Latin, rhythm and blues, and reggae. Their album The World Is a Ghetto was Billboard's best-selling album of 1973. The band transcended racial and cultural barriers with a multi-ethnic line-up. War was subject to many line-up changes over the course of its existence, leaving member Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan as the only original member in the current line-up; four other members created a new group called the Lowrider Band.

The Eric Burdon Band Sun Secrets 1974 Lyrics Baby, do you understand me now Sometimes I feel a little mad But don't you know that no one alive Can always be an angel When things go wrong I seem to be bad But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood Baby, sometimes I'm so carefree With a joy that's hard to hide And sometimes it seems that all I have do is worry Then you're bound to see my other side But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood If I seem edgy I want you to know That I never mean to take it out on you Life has it's problems and I get my share And that's one thing I never meant to do Because I love you Oh, Oh baby don't you know I'm human Have thoughts like any other one Sometimes I find myself long regretting Some foolish thing some little simple thing I've done But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood Yes, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood Yes, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood Bass Randy Rice Drums Alvin Taylor Engineer Ed Barton Guitar Aalon Producer Jerry Goldstein Vocals Eric Burdon

The Animals are an English rhythm and blues and rock band, formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in the early 1960s. The band moved to London upon finding fame in 1964. The Animals were known for their gritty, bluesy sound and deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon, as exemplified by their signature song and transatlantic No. 1 hit single, "House of the Rising Sun", as well as by hits such as "We Gotta Get Out of This Place", "It's My Life", "I'm Crying" and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". The band balanced tough, rock-edged pop singles against rhythm and blues-orientated album material and were part of the British Invasion of the US. The Animals underwent numerous personnel changes in the mid-1960s and suffered from poor business management. Under the name Eric Burdon and the Animals, the much-changed act moved to California and achieved commercial success as a psychedelic and hard rock band with hits like "San Franciscan Nights", "When I Was Young" and "Sky Pilot", before disbanding at the end of the decade. Altogether, the group had ten Top Twenty hits in both the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100. The original lineup of Burdon, Alan Price, Chas Chandler, Hilton Valentine and John Steel reunited for a one-off benefit concert in Newcastle in 1968. They later had brief comebacks in 1975 and 1983. There have been several partial regroupings of the original era members since then under various names. The Animals were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

We interview the great artists of the rock era and you never know what’s in store from day to day, subscribe so you don’t miss out. I had the distinct privilege to speak with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame frontman of the Animals in our Eric Burdon interview some time ago and I was blown away. Whenever you are in the presence of a legend’s legend it’s a truly special. I mean Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, so many others who are directly influenced by them. Eric Burdon as the leader of the Animals was straight up, balls to the wall, no holds barred, heart rupturing and soul galvanizing as a singer. Few can compare to his intensity or his integrity for what he’s singing. My dad introduced me to the Animals when I was very young and he said, this is what rock and roll is all about and of course he was right. The animals were a force to be reckoned with in the 60s and were right there with the Beatles, the Stones, The Byrds, the Supremes, the Four Tops and the Beach Boys in that fantastic 64-66 period of music. Many have argued that their number one hit The House of the Rising Sun was the first Folk Rock Hit. We talk about this in the mini documentary that will follow. We also bring Roger McGuinn of the Byrds into that conversation as well. The House of the Rising sun as with many classic folk ballads, is unknown in who the actual writer or composer was. There has been plenty of speculation . Musicologists say that it is based on the tradition of broadside ballads, and thematically it does have some resemblance to the 16th-century ballad the Unfortunate Rake. But there isn’t clear evidence that there is a direct relation “. The great historian and musician Alan Lomax said that "Rising Sun" was the name of a bawdy house in two traditional English songs, and it was also a name for English pubs. He also said that the melody might be related to a 17th-century folk song, "Lord Barnard and Little Musgrave", also known as Matty Groves. Lomax also put forth the idea that the location of the house was then relocated from England to New Orleans by White Southern performers. Others have said different. I discuss some of this with Eric and though there are disputes about the origin of the song, there is no dispute that the Animals recorded the definitive version of this song. Others who recorded it include Roy Acuff, Leadbelly, Woodie Guthrie, Nina Simone Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton and many more. Here is Eric Burdon of the Animals with the complete story as we go into this interview I want to thank our Sponsor Zennie Eyewear. I’m wearing them now. Ex-Animal Eric Burdon und die amerikanische Funk-Band War mit ihrer Hit-Single "Spill The Wine" live im Beat Club am 26.09.1970. The first chart hit of the multi-ethnic band War, sang by short-time member Eric Burdon. Burdon, tired of his parent band The Animals in the UK, joined the Californian jam band in 1969. But after two albums, highly acclaimed concerts and rave reviews in the music press, Burdon suddenly left the group in the middle of an European tour and never went back. The song Spill The Wine was rediscovered in the late 90s as part of the soundtrack to Boogie Nights, Paul Thomas Andersons film about the Californian adult movie business of the 70s. It can be heard during the pool party scene with Mark Wahlberg, Burt Reynolds and Philip Baker Hall.

To celebrate (and benefit) Amnesty International's 50th year advocating for human rights, an astonishing roster of artists from Adele to Ziggy Marley have all contributed their own interpretation of a Bob Dylan song. Many, like Pete Townshend and Lucinda Williams, give straightforward readings, while the likes of Rise Against and Queens of the Stone Age crank up the volume, and Elvis Costello and others get a little more experimental. Eric Burdon, meanwhile, outfits "Gotta Serve Somebody" with a Bo Diddley beat.
