Old Tati was not only famous for commerce, it was also home to the first Jesuit mission in Botswana In 1877, a Belgian Jesuit, Father Henri Depelchin SI, was appointed to be the first superior of the new Zambezi Mission. He spent 1878 seeking the necessary church permission and sourcing funds and manpower. He then chose 11 men from a number of European provinces to be the founding members. This included six Fathers and five Brothers from Belgium, Germany, Italy and England. When they arrived in Shoshong, Khama the Christian chief, though receptive, was already under the influence of the London Missionary Society. He challenged the Jesuits why they were doing the same work as the LMS if they were Christians. Depelchin decided to move on northwards where they reached Motloutsie River where they found adequate water. They then proceeded to Tati where they arrived on 17 August 1879. Tati had become an important trading centre and at the time had only 19 European and twenty non-white settlers. The Jesuits were well received by the traders and Depelchin decided to found here at Tati, the first mission of their province, named the Good Hope Mission and later Immaculate Heart of Marry. Plans were afoot to build a chapel, school and establish an orphanage. However, the missionaries faced many challenges such as tropical diseases, lack of funds, lack of transport and manpower. This was responsible for the mission lasting only for a period of six years from 1879 to 1885. Apart from the graves of the two Jesuits missionaries at the cemetery, one of the landmark features is a marble tablet between the graves which contains their names. While the existence of the Jesuit mission has always been in the records of the Catholic church, it was not until 2008 when Mr Azhani Molefhe from Mathangwane, a Catholic himself, came to Patayamatebele on a construction project that the church took a keen interest in the site.

The Pilgrimage As the day approaches, fear encroaches. Anxiety is high as I say goodbye, to this society that I've held on high. These routines I know, this life that I've built - comfort, abundance, and materialism to the hilt. I embark on a journey that I have never known. My goal of this is to make life my own. To live according the beat of my heart. To delve deeper within me and to cultivate art. To bring back opinions from all over the world. To spread my light like a beacon unfurled. To meet new faces. To make new friends. To learn about how journeys begin. To see parts of this earth that I've never dreamt. To see how long I can last unkempt. To take a hiatus from society as I know it. To seek spirituality of some sort and show it - that I am present, I am here and now. To you, I show respect and take a bow. For the powers that flow within you, flow within me. I acknowledge this and just want to see - what I can learn from such an experience, this life that I lead has made me delirious. Hungry for money and material things. I just want to help people with the light that I bring. This journey will help me turn up to 10. Though I know in my heart, this journey began - long long ago deep in another life. And through all of the growth, the pain, and the strife, I have been led right here and right here I stand, in front of my life that is right at hand. The Camino De Santiago is a pilgrimage across Spain on foot from St. Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela. It is 779 KM on paper. I walked 1,005 KM according to my fitbit in 33 days. It was physical trying, mentally challenging and emotionally expanding. This walk changed my life and gave me friends and connections from all over the world. Each and every person I met, I left a piece of my heart with. A drop of my passion. A sliver of my soul. I reside within them as they reside within me. We are one. We are love. We are pilgrims together in this crazy, wonderful, scary, beautiful, challenging and growth inspiring life. All the love in the universe - David

On August 11 I paid a visit to The Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota then traveled the short distance and paid a visit to Mount Rushmore. As I left the area I took Iron Mountain Road (South Dakota Highway 16a) and was treated to an exciting ride. I finished my day driving through The Badlands from the eastern entrance back northwest.

I share my thoughts on my 2015 summer journey through Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota and Iowa. My goal is to simply enjoy the natural beauty of God's creation. August 9 will be a day I remember the rest of my life. The Grand Tetons were shrouded in clouds in the morning but my patience was rewarded and before mid-day the sun burned off the clouds and gave me a wonderful view and perfect photo opportunities with wispy clouds in the sky. Then it was off to a drive through of the lower part of Yellowstone Park. There are no words to describe the breathtaking beauty of this region.
