In the last video, I showed how I needed a little help from my ancient Printrbot 1405 "Simple Maker's Edition", plywood based 3D printer to make parts to get my Prusa i3 clone 100% up and running. To be fair, I could have winged it and printed those parts using the Prusa clone, but, I had it all apart, no sense in putting it together just to make parts for it requiring disassembly to re-install them! Plus, it gave me a chance to play around with my first 3D printer again! Now in this video, I show you the fruits of my labor, upgrading my homebrew Prusa i3 MK2S, to a Prusa i3 MK2.5S+ (and also righting some wrongs from before). I have to say, not only am I enjoying the new 2.5S+ hardware features (magnetic bed, filament sensor, "Super PINDA probe", better print cooling fan, quieter operation, better wire management, better extruder gears), but also the new features that came with the firmware (allows you to track 2 smooth build service sheets, and 2 textured build surface sheets, and retain a Z-first-layer-setting for each; Plus, improved Z-first layer performance, when you choose to set the first layer height, it now gives you the option to tell the printer what kind of filament you will use, so the nozzle and bed temps can be set for more than just PLA.) The combined benefits of SW and HW evolution mean, a different character for the printer (a MUCH better one!) It raises the hot end after a print to let you remove the magnetic build sheet. If you insert filament into the extruder feed area (when there was no filament before, it simply takes the filament, gets it purged and ready to use. If you run out of filament during a print, it will alert you, and allow you to return to your print where you left off. AND- best of all, now my printer will reliably pass self-test, wizard, Z-calibration, and XYZ calibration- every time, with no prep or staging the PINDA probe to a bed leveling sensor.. In short, it just works, and works VERY well! In the vid I mentioned I thought I paid 150 bucks to upgrade it- that number was actually closer to 300, but spread across multiple orders from Prusa (which is why I forgot)... Although that's alot (enough to buy an Ender 3 or similar), it did include two powder coated, steel sheet build surfaces (one smooth, one textured), a MK52 magnetic heated bed/thermister/harness, Super-PINDA probe, some sensor Y-connectors, textile wire management sleeves, Bondtech gears kit, a Y-carriage bearing U-bolt upgrade kit, and also two new actual Prusa Z-rod/motors. So, a lot of parts for the money, and I may even sell the MK42 heated bed, old Z-rod motors/couplers, and old PINDA probe to recomp some of my investment. I'm really happy with this printer's performance now, and I'm glad I did this upgrade. However, if you are considering getting a Prusa 3D printer, you are MUCH better served just buying a new kit from Prusa (there really is no cost benefit to building your own from scratch like I did- I used all Prusa, and/or Prusa OEM supplier parts, and ultimately there wasn't really a cost savings). It was definately a fun project, and I learned a ton, too. If you aim to start out building a cheaper Prusa clone, you can find Ali-express/knock off parts that may be serviceable/reliable, and then a project like this will cost less. Hope you enjoy watching, and if you're into this sort of thing, maybe it even gives you a few ideas.

Worried that your 3D printer assembly was a bit off? The Original Prusa i3 MK2 unique Calibrate XYZ function offers perfect 3D printing anyway! Since 3.0.6 firmware, the printer can automatically find the calibration points and because it knows its geometry (how skewed the axes are) it can correct it live during the print as it does with automatic mesh bed levelling. MK2 is the first printer on the planet with this ability! You can read more about it at 🤍 Video made by Dominik Císař

Multi Material upgrade 2.0 is the second generation of our unique multi-material addon, which enables your 3D printer to print with up to 5 colors at the same time. Learn more about in our article: 🤍 Now compatible with the Original Prusa i3 MK2.5 and MK3 3D printers, MMU 2.0 went through a major revision, resulting in a simpler and more reliable design. The number of simultaneously supported filaments increased to the total of five, which enables the users to print even more complex and more colorful objects. MMU 2.0 comes with a redesigned body and a new filament loading mechanism. Instead of the previous Bowden system, the new unit uses a direct-drive feed and a single PTFE tube to lead the selected filament to the extruder. The motorized selector head has a F.I.N.D.A filament sensor and a built-in blade, which prevents filament jamming. ✔ To buy Original Prusa i3 Multi Material 2.0 visit our e-shop: 🤍

It is very important to load clean filament into the machine. If a larger diameter filament is forced into the extruder it will deform the PTFE tube and possibly become jammed in the extruder. I was impressed by the reviews of the factory built Prusa i3 mk2 printers by the 3d printing nerd and Thomas Sanladerer so thought I should order a $699.00 kit "shipping was another $100.00 for me" and see how it does. In a nut shell, it does great and man is it quiet compared to my flash forge dreamers ! The kit is not to bad to build, took me about 6 hours to build and calabrate. The kit also came faster than I was expecting, the web site said things were back ordered and a email sent to me said it might take up to 4 weeks, but I got the kit 9 days after I ordered it. Thats fast for UPS delivery. The on line build information and pictures are the way too go, th book is OK but the pictures are hard to see and you do not get all the build comments from other builders in the book. Main things to remember if you are going to build one is do not tighten up the frame bolts right a way as you will be adjusting them later and second, adjust the bed sensor just a bit higher than the print nozzle other wise you will never make it threw the auto calibration steps. So far very impressed with the print quality and the operation for a low cost 3d printer ! Next I need to order the 0.24 nozzles and give the HD printing a shot ! link to 3d printing nerd review. 🤍 link to Thomas Sanladerer review. 🤍
I wanted to show everyone how easy it is to get into the 3D printing world, so I'm using myself as a test subject to go through every step of the process, from researching and buying a printer, to assembling it, and then to editing and printing some stuff.
