This is an overview of the Roland FR-3x Virtual Accordion. The 3x can be played as a traditional accordion or you can play orchestral and organ sounds in the treble, bass, and chord sections. You can create your own virtual accordion, or User Sets, that has just the reeds and orchestral instruments you like. You can also use the User Program feature which allows you to combine treble, bass, and chord section voices by a single touch of a treble register. These features are demonstrated in the video. It is not intended to be an exhaustive review of the 3x, but it should speed the learning process for many 3x owners, and also allow prospective owners to see some of its features. A subsequent video will demonstrate how to make parameter changes and to load sets and user programs from a flash drive. This video features the Neopolitan song, "Torna a Surriento," composed in 1902 by Ernesto De Curtis, with words by Giambatista De Curtis. This piece is also known as "Come Back to Sorrento." I am using this song to demonstrate a User Program that makes it easy to take advantage of the variety of sound changes possible with the FR-3x. Instead of making multiple button presses to get to the sound combinations desired, you can access treble, bass, and chord combinations in one push of a treble register. "Take Five" was written by Paul Desmond and recorded in 1959 by the Dave Brubeck Quartet in their "Time Out" album. It's unusual in its use of a 5/4 meter. I'm playing this using ONLY the onboard voices of the Roland FR-7x. String Bass, electric piano chord, and light percussion effects linked to the bass and chord. At approximately 50 seconds into the video, you can hear the use of pitch bend, an effect that can be programmed as an option to reeds and orchestral voices (e.g., harmonica). Percussion effects, including the brushes used in the middle of the piece, are programmed to accompany the bass and chord buttons. If you are interested in purchasing a collection of 20 sets created for the Roland 7x, please email me. The sets include a variety of styles including Italian, German, French, Country, Rock, Latin, Big Band, Orchestral, Jazz, and several all-purpose setswith and without rhythms. The sets have been painstakingly developed over a period of many months, and have been gig-tested as well. Programming instruction is also available in my free youtube videos.
