The Albanian Riviera is a coastline along the Northeastern Ionian Sea in the Mediterranean Sea encompassing the districts of Sarandë and Vlorë in Southwestern Albania. It forms an important section of the Albanian Ionian Sea Coast dotted with the villages of Palasë, Dhërmi, Vuno, Himara, Qeparo, Borsh, Piqeras, Lukovë and Sarandë. The riviera should not be confused with the entire coastline of the country, which includes the Ionian Sea Coast, and the mostly flat Adriatic Sea Coast in the north. The Ceraunian Mountains separates the coast from the hinterland. The area is a major nightlife, ecotourist, and elite retreat destination in Albania. It features traditional Mediterranean villages, ancient castles, churches, monasteries, secluded turquoise beaches, bays, mountain passes, seaside canyons, coves, rivers, underwater fauna, caves, and orange, lemon, and olive groves. During the classical times, 48 BC during his pursuit of Pompey, Julius Caesar set foot and rested his legion at Palasë. He continued onto Llogara Pass in a place later named Caesar's Pass. - VISIT OUR WEBSITE: 🤍mtravelvlog.com - LET’S BE FRIENDS: INSTAGRAM: 🤍 FACEBOOK: 🤍 TikTok 🤍 TWITTER 🤍 PATREON: 🤍 PINTEREST 🤍 - Here is a link if you want to help and encourage me to keep doing what I am doing: 🤍 - Can’t thank you enough for being here and checking out our channel! The Albanian Ionian Sea Coast is a coastline of the Northeastern Ionian Sea, that encompasses the southwestern border of the Republic of Albania, stretching from the southern half of Karaburun Peninsula, across the historical region of Labëria, the city of Sarandë, the mountains of the Ceraunians and the Albanian Riviera, to the Lake of Butrint, where the Strait of Corfu separates the country from Greece. Albania is located in Southern and Southeastern Europe in the western section of the Balkan Peninsula. It borders on Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, North Macedonia to the east, Greece to the south and the Mediterranean Sea to the west. The coastline occupies a total length of 172 kilometres (107 mi) and explicitly marked by a mountainous landscape supplied with deep bays, numerous islands, high cliffs, rocky and sandy coasts and a unique marine life. The Ionian Sea is an arm of the Mediterranean Sea positioned south of the Adriatic Sea, which extend from Sicily up to the Strait of Otranto between Salento and Bay of Vlorë. It is surrounded by Italy in the west, Greece and Albania in the east. Though considered by ancient authors to be part of the Adriatic Sea, the Ionian Sea is at present seen as a separate body of water. Traditionally, the region represents the most valuable tourist resource for the country, especially due to the unspoilt natural and cultural beauty expressed in the region's architecture, cuisine and tradition. Its most considerable attraction is the ancient city of Butrint, that is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, because it provides valuable remains of ancient civilizations. The region is populated by more than 50.000 people with the largest city being the seaport city of Sarandë, one of the most appreciated tourist destinations in the Ionian Sea. Sarandë is served by Port of Sarandë, one of the largest of the country, which has become a notable sailing and cruise port. The region is very scenic, with wild coastlines, mountains and a very substantial proportion of native forest. Some of the most prominent beaches along the coastline are Dhërmi, Himara, Qeparo, Borsh, Lukovë, Vuno and Ksamil. The Albanian Ionian Sea Coast is known for its diverse landscapes, unique traditions, and its influence on Albanian culture. It is regarded as the birthplace of the Albanian iso-polyphony which was recognised as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The Canyon of Gjipe is a bay and calcareous canyon located between Dhërmi and Vuno carved by the Ionian Sea in Vlorë County, Albania. The canyon occupies a length of 800 metres (2,600 ft) and a width that can varies between 10 metres (33 ft) and 20 metres (66 ft). It represents a narrow strait, created by the activity of the brook flowing through its narrow pass. There are numerous rock formations along the canyon, including a number of caves. Located at the transition zone of the Adriatic Sea and Ionian Sea, the scenery is among the mosts visited attractions along the Albanian Riviera. Nonetheless, the canyon has been further recognised as an Important Plant Area of international importance by Plantlife, because it supports a number of rare and endemic species. In terms of phytogeography, the canyon belongs to the Illyrian province of the circumboreal region within the boreal Kingdom. It falls completely within the Illyrian deciduous forests terrestrial ecoregion of the palearctic mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub. Among vegetation elements, the presence is extremely significant of the carob and olive, which has been produced since antiquity throughout the country. The specific landscape right beside the sea and the particular climate have favored the development of a vast array of faunal species that demonstrates an eminent quality. The canyon contains shallow coastal waters which provide sufficient habitat for the loggerhead sea turtle, the most familiar turtle in the Mediterranean Sea. Dolphins are not really that uncommon in the region. Three species of dolphins have been identified within its waters amongst them the cuvier's beaked whale, common bottlenose dolphin and short-beaked common dolphin. #shorts - VISIT OUR WEBSITE: 🤍mtravelvlog.com - LET’S BE FRIENDS: INSTAGRAM: 🤍 FACEBOOK: 🤍 TikTok 🤍 TWITTER 🤍 PATREON: 🤍 PINTEREST 🤍 - Here is a link if you want to help and encourage me to keep doing what I am doing: 🤍 - Can’t thank you enough for being here and checking out our channel! ALBANIA Go Your Own Way - Visit Albania 🤍TopAlbania Subscribe Now! 🤍 🤍 ♫ Kuarteti Pentagram 🤍 Top 21 Beaches in Albania ► 🤍 Albanian Alps ► 🤍 🤍TopAlbania 🤍 The Albanian Riviera is blessed with 300 days of sun. The average temperature in January is 10 degrees C. and the average temperature in July is 25 degrees C. The Ionian coastline is known for having fascinating beaches with deep and very clean waters. Younger crowds tend to visit the Ionian beaches as the area offers many opportunities for those interested in water sports like diving, boat tours, etc. Some of the most exotic and interesting beaches in the south of Albania are Dhërmi, Jal, Himara, Qeparo, Borsh, Saranda and Ksamil. From the Llogara Pass, which is 1,057 meters above sea level, the breathtaking coast can be seen as if from the vantage point of an airplane. The first beach here is Dhraleos in Palasë which has a length of 1.5 km. This is one of the most exotic and tranquil beaches of the Albanian coastal zone complete with rich blue waters. This beach is popular for water sports and is sometimes even the destination for the parachutes that launch from Llogara Pass. Dhërmi is located a little further south and is one of the most frequented and important tourist places along the Albanian coast. The crystal-clear waters, isolated beaches, water sports and diving make this the preferred beach of younger generation. The different beaches that are part of Dhërmi are Jaliksari, Shkambo and Gjipea. The beach of Gjipea has a beautiful shape. Past this beach there is a stream that has made a canyon with 70 meters high walls. Located near the beach of Dhërmi is the Cave of Pirates which tourists can access only by boat or ferry. There are also hotels, restaurants and summer clubs located nearby. Throughout this entire area, family tourism has developed, where tourists can choose to rent guesthouses or reside in a variety of hotels nearby. Near Himara 8 km south of Dhërmi, you will find the village of Vuno, which is the central area of the Albanian Riviera. It is a tourist town that comes to life during the summer season thanks to the younger generations that come here. In this area are beaches of Spile, Potam, Llamaniand and Livadhja. All of them stand out for their deep waters, navigability and rocky characteristics. After Borsh is Qeparo and the small tectonic gulf of Porto Palermo where Ali Pasha castle is located. Borsh, is one of the longer beach areas of the Albanian Riviera protected by a collection of massive Mediterranean vegetation, primarily citrus and olive plantations. Family tourism has also become very popular in this area. Between here and the city of Saranda, one can find the beaches of Bunec, Kakome and Krokëy whose collective length runs about three km and each with beautiful, crystal-clear water. The city of Saranda is the most populous urban area on the Albanian Riviera and a very big tourist destination, especially enjoyed by newly married couples on their honeymoon. The city and surrounding areas offer a range of hotels catering to five-star travelers as well as the more budget conscious, while home rentals also remain an option. The city is well-located on the coast only 9 km away from the Greek island of Corfu. Daily ferries offer connections between Saranda and Corfu making this southern Albanian city a good base for European and international tourists. Along Saranda you will find some smaller beaches like Central and Liman. Usually, tourists prefer to visit one of the more frequented places, Ksamil, which is located between the peninsula of Ksamil and lagoon of Butrint hosting a number of hotels and restaurants, near the beach of Ksamil are 4 small islands covered by Mediterranean vegetation with a surface of 8.9 ha. #TopAlbania #VisitAlbania #BeachesAlbania

🌎 TRAVEL MEDIA EU: 🤍 🇦🇱 DAVID’S BEEN HERE ALBANIA SHIRTS: 🤍 My 13th day in Albania began bright and early with a new adventure: exploring the Albanian Riviera! Join me as I go on an epic Albanian Riviera road trip from Sarandë to Vlorë and enjoy lots of Albanian food, beaches, and attractions in southern Albania! 🧳 BALKAN PEARLS TOUR OPERATOR: 🤍 🚗 RENTAL CAR ALBANIA: 🤍 My buddy Erjan from Travel Media EU and I began our day at Byrektore Turi, the best byrek shop in Sarandë. My cheese byrek was amazing, as was the dhalle, which is a watery yogurt drink. Then, we explored the Old Town, including the ruins of the 5th-century Synagogue Complex, a fishermen’s port, Sarandë Beach, and Jamaica Beach Club. To get to Vlorë, we took the long route along the coast and arrived in the village of Borsh. There, we had some plum raki at Ujvara Veranda, an amazing café that’s built on on top of and around Borshit Waterfalls! From there, we drove 20 minutes to Porto Palermo Castle. It’s a triangle castle and was used by Ali Pasha of Tepelena, his wife, and his soldiers. It was built for fun and was converted into a storage space for oil in Communist times. There’s a soldier room and a huge, wide-open terrace with a panoramic view of the Ionian Sea. Next, we had some drinks at Dhima Hotel in Himarë, which is known for its white sand beach and nightlife! I bought a fig from a vendor there and met a couple who follow me! Then, we passed through Vuno and Dhërmi, which has a great beach that’s popular with the young crowd. The beach was 3 kilometers long and lined by a boardwalk. There are never-ending umbrellas as well as bars and restaurants. Our next stop was Palasë. The area was less developed and wilder, and the beach was rockier and a lot less crowded. I bought a fig from a vendor. The Albanian Riviera reminded me a bit of the Italian Riviera, but it was also quite different. Then, we headed up a mountain, where we had an incredible view of the Ionian Sea at Panorama Llogara. Next, we headed further into the mountains and then back down on our way to Llogara National Park. At the hotel and restaurant called Llogara Tourist Village are cottages and a park where there are 9 deer in the park you can feed with corn. At the restaurant sampled four rakis before trying the cheese grilled in a tava, which had a crispy exterior and a soft, buttery interior, and came with tomatoes and green peppers. The lamb ribs were tender and fatty with a smoky charcoal taste. There was a creamy and spicy red pepper paste with toasted bread and some amazing grilled vegetables including eggplant, red pepper, and green pepper, which were super moist and tasty! The roasted lamb ribs were unreal. I couldn’t get enough of it! It was so meaty. Next were quail legs and wings, which were sweet and meaty. There was also a super sweet rice and some earthy wild mushrooms. A highlight was their special cheese byrek, which was doughy and packed with cheese and full of layers. It’s amazing with fresh yogurt! The byrek was super fresh! Then, I jumped on the olive, orange, and onion salad, which was really unique, and a Caesar salad in a tosta. It was creamy and contained chicken, nuts, cheese, and balsamic vinegar. So good!! Our last dish was yogurt with honey and walnuts, which was unbelievably fresh. I loved the combination of textures and the sweetness of the honey. The crunch of the walnuts was fantastic! There’s nothing like fresh yogurt! Where have you been? ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ALBANIAN COAST!!!! We review the Albanian Riviera and give our opinion about the places we went while being in the southern part of Albania. We finished our stay in Gjirocaster and travelled down to Ksamil where we spent a few days before traveling north along the coastline and stopped at a few amazing places along the way.
We say...⬇ More Below ✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop — 🤍 Today we finally travel to what's known as the Albanian riviera - the stretch of coast in South Albania known for it's beaches ( Gjipe beach being one of the most well known) , coast line and incredible views. Our first few days exploring around Albania by car has been amazing, travel in this country is so varied and random that we really should have expected the beaches would be the same! Gjipe beach is something special, part of the reason is possibly it's location on the coast - being such a mission to walk to it likely puts some people of their travel to reach it. The Beach of Durrës (Albanian: Plazhi i Durrësit) is the biggest and most visited beach in Albania. It lines the seafront of the city of Durrës and is about 10.5 kilometres (6.5 mi) long. The sea bottom is shallow by the beach, which makes it ideal for families with small children. This destination is popular with people from Albania, Kosovo region and North Macedonia. It is also a popular summer and weekend destination for the people of Tirana and Durrës. The estimated number of tourists, most of whom frequent the beach during the summer period, is about 600,000 a year. Durres is not only about worshipping the sun, as its rich history dates back to 627 BC., to an era it when belonged to ancient Illyria. The Roman amphitheater in the city center still reminds of the cultural heritage. Drač je gradska plaža koja se prostire južno od luke i centra grada. Plaža je dugačka 10 kilometara i najuredjenija je plaža regije, sa velikim brojem restorana, kafića i beach barova, svaki sa ležaljkama i suncobranima.
