Lee was fired from the Valleyfolk, and the remaining members posted this weirdly upbeat video, but I could feel Steve crawling in his own skin. So I zoomed in on his face and faded out the saturation and light, and played the Sound of Silence in the background. It falls under Fair Use as a parody video, don't Copyright 🤍 me Youtube. * My thoughts from my reddit post that was taken down, referencing the Valleycast response: I've been pretty solid on the Team Lee train since the news broke, mostly because of the clusterfuck that was their announcement video and Lee saying she didn't see it coming. The guys have since put out an apology in the form of their statement, and the subsequent Valleycast. Lee's been on that radio silence since she put out her video. But also... there are two things about her video that aren't sitting right with me. She put out her video within ten minutes of theirs. I was online at the time. She also uploaded it as a PREMIERE and not a standard upload. I can't think of a reason why she would do that except to put it out as a scheduled video. Which makes me wonder both when she actually filmed it, and if she knew when the Valleyfolk video was going live. Between recording a two minute video, editing (which she would have had to do as there's no indication of the actual start and end points of the video, insofar as someone turning the camera on and off), uploading and processing... That process takes considerably longer than ten minutes. It was prerecorded, and I don't believe we have a way of knowing when. It could have been the day she was fired, even. To that end, I think it's fair to say that Lee didn't know about the contents of the VF video when she recorded, but she probably knew they weren't going to want to say she was fired. I think the two most telling lines in this video were from Elliot: "These are the best two dudes I've ever known." and "(Lee)'s a fantastic performer, she's a fantastic comedian." Joe said she was a close friend, but I don't think I heard Steve say her name once. I don't really want to rewatch the 43 minute long video again right this second, I'll double-check later. In the original video, Elliot gives basically the same sentiment. She's "super talented" and a "genius." Steve also didn't say Lee's name in this video. Nobody says anything about how she is as a person, only as a persona/creator. All the people talking about how Lee took Elliot in after his divorce are being kind of naive. Just because a person helps you through a dark or difficult time, that doesn't make them some sort of saint. Predators help people through difficult times with the express intent of lording that support over the person's head to control them. I'm not saying that necessarily has anything to do with what's happening, but the simple fact that Lee took Elliot in wouldn't excuse any behavior or actions on her part. Toxic people have ways of maintaining an outwardly innocent and lovable persona. People might see the relationship has what you might call "curbside appeal," but is rotting on the inside. Between the mountain of subtext here and what other old Sourcefed people have said... I think it's Lee's fault, y'all. I think she just might be a terrible person behind closed doors, and I think Steve might have gotten the brunt of it. There's uhhh... there's also this: 🤍 I was trying to find out how long Delman's known Lee, and I came across this cute little article about his proposal. Except, it's not all that cute. It's pretty revealing. "As soon as she realized you get free stuff when you propose in public, she made me propose to her all over Los Angeles. I think we’re up to about 35 restaurant proposals. It’s nice though.Except for the one time she said no. That was awkward for everyone. Everyone stared at me, feeling sorry. I sat there a little confused, because I was in on the joke, and somehow wasn’t. And she just sat there, smiling, finishing her food." Whaaaaaat the fk, bro. That's some sociopathic behavior. Also, and this isn't really relevant at all. I get that Steve is kind of receding into a shell as kind of a coping mechanism, I get that, but it made me think of two things in particular. Nick from New Girl and "Not to be outdone, Luke has just worn SUNGLASSES to a casual poker game among friends: DOUCHES WILD!" But, yeah... I think I have to reverse my position and apologize. I don't want to see anyone fail here, necessarily... but I've come to a personal conclusion that, in all likelihood, Lee Newton might not be this untouchable beacon of love and kindness.
