If you are looking for a spicy and flavourful chicken curry, Sri Lankan chicken curry is our favorite. It tastes incredible with the bread of your choice or some people prefer to have it with some hot steamy rice. This curry is prepared from coconut oil, a lot of spices, chicken, and coconut milk. For making this curry, we have used curry-cut chicken pieces and marinated them for a while. The whole spices are first roasted in this recipe till fragrant and then ground to a fine powder. Here the ground powder gives the most prominent spicy and rich flavors. We will roast the chicken in this ground powder and then later to make it creamier and to give it a sweeter texture we will be adding coconut milk. We cannot really explain the goodness of this curry. It moreover takes like Chettinad style chicken curry from Tamil Nadu. The only difference we see is that it's a little creamy and rich. If you love Sri Lankan recipes we would also suggest our Sri Lankan fish curry recipe. Samosas and dhal (lentil curry) look familiar, but upon closer inspection, these, too, have a definitively Sri Lankan spin: these thinner curries tend to be more heavily spiced than many Indian versions, and the cuisine is more inclusive of non-native ingredients, brought by international trade moving through the island. Foods that seemed to be known territory find exciting new applications in Sri Lanka, where noodles come in pancake form and pancakes serve as both bowl and base of the feast. Sri Lankan food is not for the timid eater: the fiery curries, sweet caramelized onion in seeni sambal (onion relish), and sour lime pickle are all dominant, powerful flavors that startle awake senses dulled by the thick, hot island air. Rice is an ever-present antidote to these big flavors. A meal in Sri Lanka is called "rice and curry"—a term that's almost synonymous with food in general. There's rice, of course, and usually a curry with a thin broth and large chunks of the featured protein (beef, pork, fish, goat, and on from there), plus an assortment of side dishes—anywhere from four to nine or ten, depending on the time and place. For a quicker bite, there are "short eats," a Sri Lankan term essentially denoting snacks—often a coconut roti with hot sauce, a newspaper cone of fried spiced chickpeas, or maybe a samosa. 75% of Sri Lankans are Sinhalese (mostly Buddhist), and the food generally described as Sri Lankan is their food. Tamils (mostly Hindus), especially those in the north, use slightly different spices and other ingredients in their curries, but the format of the dishes is similar to food found on the rest of the island. Many Westerners' only reference to Tamil culture is the Tamil Tigers, a group of militant separatists from the north. For feedback and suggestions please write to us at: foodcurry47🤍gmail.com

Leave it to cook until the onions turn translucent over medium heat for 2 minutes. Reduce heat and include the chilli flakes(1tsp) or 2 whole dried red chillies, once you see the onions turning golden brown, add the mustard seeds(1/2 tsp) and cook for 2 minutes. Once all the ingredients turn golden brown, remove the tempered ingredients from the heat and transfer to a separate dish.

Sri Lankan fish curry or Meen Kulambu in the local language is one of the tastiest and lip-smacking seafood dishes in Sri Lanka. Usually, this curry is prepared from coconut oil, a lot of spices, and coconut milk. For making this curry, I have used mackerel slices, It’s up to you to choose the fish of your choice. Generally in Srilanka, they use Goraka as a souring agent, But you can substitute it for Tamarind if you don’t find it around. At first, the fish is marinated with salt and turmeric. Then the curry is prepared by cooking Onion, Tomato, and spices along with Coconut milk until it turns thick. Then the marinated fish is cooked along with the rich curry. It tastes really good when served with hot steaming rice. Written Recipe: 🤍 Thanks for dropping by our channel. Please subscribe to stay tuned to our home cooking videos. Stalk us! How To Cook Indian Style Chicken Curry - Chicken Curry Recipe For Beginners If you follow this video step by step then I assure you that you will be making the best Indian style chicken curry. I tried my best to explain everything in detail and all the tips and tricks possible that go into making chicken curry. Ingredients for making a chicken curry - serves 6 to 7 * 2.2 lb/ 1 kg chicken on bones. Please note that I preferably use chicken on bones for making a chicken curry. It's not that you cannot use boneless chicken but the gravy won't be as tasty. * 2 large potatoes quartered or medium potatoes halved. I did not boil the potatoes before adding them. * 1 very large onion or 2 medium sized onions. I used quarter of the onion for making a paste. * 2 inch length ginger * 10 large garlic cloves * 1 large tomato * 2 green chillies (optional) * 2 large dry bay leaf * 1 inch length cinnamon stick * 6 to 7 green cardamoms * 4 to 5 cloves * 1/4 th cup plain unflavored yogurt * 1 teaspoon turmeric powder * 2 heaped teaspoons Kashmiri red chilli powder. You can even use regular red chilli powder but in that case please use less. Adjust the proportion of any chilli powder according to your tolerance of heat level. Add only half a teaspoon to start with, do a taste test at the end and add more if you feel you want more chilli heat. * 1 tablespoon ground coriander * 1 teaspoon garam masala powder. If you want to make garam masala powder at home then here is the recipe - 🤍 * 1/4 th teaspoon ground mace (optional) * 1/4 th teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional) * 2 teaspoons salt (add less to start with, you can always add later) * 1 teaspoon sugar(optional) * 1 cup hot water. You can go up to a total of 1 & 1/2 cups of hot water if you want more gravy. * 1/4th cup oil ( 4 to 5 tablespoons) Serve this with rice/roti/paratha/naan. HAAL MASSO Dried Sprats (or Anchovies) are fried till slightly crisp and a little chewy. Delicious with rice and other Sri Lankan curries. This is how my grandmother made it and it was so delicious, I had to share the recipe! So effortless and easy to make. Just be sure to buy the headless, gutted, dry anchovies/sprats when looking to buy it. You might pay extra but it's worth it! Otherwise, these sprats can be very time-consuming to make since each and every sprat has to be cleaned! Happy Cooking!

Coconut is an incredibly versatile ingredient and can be found in curries from India, Thailand, the Philippines, and many other places. ➡️ Here's a simple green coconut curry to make right at home! This is a nutrient-dense and a totally vegan recipe! Garlic, onion, jalapeno, ginger, and lime, all of which have intense flavors in their own right, combine with several spices to give the curry the classical spiciness it’s known for. ➡️ The curry will go through a few transformations as it goes from raw ingredients to being reduced to a paste, to its revival in a liquid form due to adding coconut milk, to the final addition of all of the vegetables. The curry is made hearty with the addition of several filling veggies like zucchini, broccoli, mushrooms, bell peppers, and even some tofu! 💬 What is your favorite curry and what country is it most popular in? Let me know in the comments below! ▶️ RECIPE INGREDIENTS: CURRY PASTE: 1/2 cup / 40g - Cilantro (coriander) stem & roots (THOROUGHLY WASHED to get rid of any dirt) 1 Tablespoon / 4 to 5 Garlic approx. 1/2 Tablespoon / 1/2 Inch ginger approx. 1 Jalapeno / 20g Zest of 1 lime / 1/2 Tablespoon 1/2 cup / 70g Onion 1 Teaspoon Turmeric powder 1 Teaspoon Ground Cumin 1 Teaspoon Ground Coriander 1/4 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper or to taste (Optional) 1/2 Teaspoon salt 2 to 3 tablespoon cooking oil (I have used light olive oil) OTHER INGREDIENTS: 3 cups / 700ml Coconut milk 1 cup / 250ml Water Salt to taste ( I have added 1+1/4 teaspoon pink Himalayan salt) 1 cup / 100g Red Bell Pepper - chopped 1 cup / 100g Green Bell Pepper - chopped 1 cup / 100g Zucchini - chopped 1+1/2 cup / 100g Mushrooms - chopped (I have used Cremini mushroom) 1 cup / 150g Firm Tofu - cut into cubes (I have used organic non-gmo tofu) 1 cup / 100g Broccoli (65g) - chopped 1 to 1/2 cup / 50 to 100g Snap Peas - remove the strings from the sides and chop in half or leave it whole Lime Juice to taste (I have added 1 tablespoon I like it a bit sour) ▶️ METHOD: (3 to 4 servings) Start by adding cilantro stems/roots, garlic, ginger, jalapeno, onion, lime zest to a blender and make a puree. (Please note: Add only 1/2 tablespoon of ginger, if you add too much the dish will turn bitter. Also, thoroughly wash the cilantro roots and stem to get rid of any dirt.) Transfer the puree to a deep pot. Add the spices, cooking oil and cook over medium heat until it forms a thick paste and the oil starts to separate - which means it's nicely roasted. Then add the coconut milk, water, salt and bring it to a boil. Once it starts to boil, reduce the heat to medium-low and cover and cook for about 20 minutes - for the flavours to develop. Uncover and add the vegetables and tofu. Turn the heat to medium or medium high (depending on the heat of your stove) and cook for another 5 to 6 minutes uncovered, until the zucchini is just slightly soft but still has a bite to it. Cook the gravy to the desired consistency. Add the broccoli, snap peas and cook for a few seconds and turn off the heat. Please note we don't want to over cook the broccoli/ snap peas, it will continue to cook in the hot gravy even after turning off the heat. Enjoy it with freshly steamed rice or as a soup. This recipe is perfect for meal prep and stores well in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. ▶️ IMPORTANT TIPS: - Thoroughly wash the cilantro roots and stems to get rid of any dirt - Add only 1/2 tablespoon of ginger, if you add too much the dish will turn bitter - Make sure to cook the curry paste until the oil starts to separate, this will add a lot of flavour * Welcome to the Official YouTube Channel of Food Impromptu!
