Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers held MVP Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets to just 46 points in the 2nd half, thanks in large part to a halftime adjustment to the defensive scheme by coach Doc Rivers. This detailed film room analysis breaks down how P.J. Tucker and Embiid slowed down Jokic in their January 28, 2023 game in Philadelphia. I really hope Embiid wins MVP over Jokic this year, he's clearly the better player and Center of the century
Embiid always outplays Jokic.
If the Lakers can continue their run and make it past the play in and into the playoffs, I'm tempted to think they may be able to mimic this defense to a certain level. Having LeBron play PJ's role and AD roaming like Embiid can help slow things down. Not to mention potentially using Vanderbilt in different ways I can see them giving the Nuggets some headaches occasionally.
qfHP0b-voTA&t=7m09s 7:09 The perspective on court must be sooooo different
qfHP0b-voTA&t=6m52s 6:52 That's te beauty of different styles and personel
qfHP0b-voTA&t=6m17s 6:17 What kind of crazyness is that??? 😂, feels like a joke.
qfHP0b-voTA&t=6m31s 6:31 It's not possible they didn't know that, and to have Harden doing that makes a lot of sense.
It was brilliant to take Embid off of Jokic and use a faster player to cover Jokic.
Stopping jokic means he only drops 29 8 7 lmao. Just think about that.
qfHP0b-voTA&t=3m38s 3:38 A floater would be better here, maybe he was too eager.
qfHP0b-voTA&t=3m09s 3:09 I actually felt he was going to slip, all that space and Jo position just begged to
qfHP0b-voTA&t=1m21s 1:21 Sounds like madness. Just to show how the game changed.
Embiid is the better player, no question.
The issue is this strategy would fall apart if gordon was a better shooter. The nuggets just didnt have enough threats from the 3 to justify PJ staying off of jokic
the bulls can do that
Denver is going to bend The Sixers over in their next game.🤷🏻♂️😂
Isn't that similar to Draymond going against him meanwhile Looney ready to help?
Wolves did something similar with slomo
Lowkey the Grizz could implement this same strategy by having Steven Adams shade the paint and having JJJ play man on Jokic.
Love the analysis. You get my sub
