As an Iranian, this would be similar to Iraq or Turkey calling itself "Persia" today. Sure, the lands were part of the old Persian territories, but they're not ethnically Persian so it would be a mischaracterization and wrong in every way. People would hear about the Persian empire or this or that and many would automatically equate it to the country called "Persia". So I fully understand why this was annoying for Greeks

Dear Luke, how cool would it be for you if you could charge every stupid nationalist a dollar for letting them comment their bubbemeises in your video. Ignorants will always reproduce the propaganda they were raised with. I commented in your other video in favor of them, so won't hide my sympathy for the Greeks, not only because I live among them for more than three decades now, but mostly because their national myth is coherent and, at least, somewhat plausible compared to what's out there in other Balkan/Middle Eastern stores. I spent some years in Greek Western Macedonia too, so I know first-hand that - save of ideology - it is not easy to disentangle past. These are feelings I can understant. Me myself am - technically at least, because I've never been there - an American, born in Amman, Jordan and raised as a kid in many middle eastern countries. My parents were of Dutch and Scottish origins. And all my three (yes, three) exes, all had some greek and some slavic connections. (For those curious, my first had a greek-american father and a Polish-born Jewish maternal grandmother. My second is technically greek from Western Macedonia who speaks the local idiom and insisted she could watch Tarkovsky's movies without subtitles, yet she found true light and now holds a local counsellor position for a greek right-wing party. The third is a Soviet-born, partly Pontic Greek and partly Ukranian-and-only-God-knows-what-else, some gypsy and jewish roots also included). To make my point, any question about origins is futile except on darwinian grounds. I don't mean to offend a fellow Roman who sports proudly his SPQR flag, but I guess you already know your famous italian surname is actually Old Norse. In the same vein, Greeks should be proud too for their "Mycenaean" blood, but they should also not forget that slavic-speaking minorities survived as far as Peloponnese in the south until well after crusades and latin occupation. Northern Macedonians, on the other hand, should try to accept reality, admit that Greeks and their wild variegations (various Hellens, even slavic-speaking greeks like those denigrated as "Гркомани‎", Blachs, Arvanites, etc) were always the main ingredient of the Ottoman Macedonian salad and actually the only potential friend in their balkan neighborhood. Unlike Serbs, and mainly unlike Albanians and Bulgarians, Greeks have no territorial ambitions there, all they want are clients. In fact, Greeks throughout their history were never balkanic, they even didn't have a collective name for Balkans until they borrowed this turkish one for an area that was for medieval eastern Romans something like Mexico for modern US. Yet, no-one should underestimate their reactions, being themselves top masters of irredentism for 200 years now, they can smell a rat from afar - they didn't argue περί ὄνου σκιᾶς. Bottom line: wise people know there is only one valid argument in "ethnic" disputes - might. "Nations" are the vehicle of financial interests and ethnic/religious myths are their way to recruit fools as the needed cannon fodder. After all, all "Macedonias" worldwide already belong to banks and hedge funds - nothing worth-fighting for unless you are a stockholder.

There are Ancient Cemeteries in Macedonia In Greece and the names are overwhelmingly Greek in Macedonia some Thracian and Egyptian names from memory in the cemeteries Philips, Ptolemy, Alexander etc all Greek names but Macedonians , wheras the Romans had Latin names

Is Alexander the Great Greek?? Well....Alexander the Great was descended from Hercules from his father's side and Achilles from his mother's side. Therefore, undisputably, 100% Greek. Plutarch says so and many respectable classical scholars around the world say so too.

Macedonia is a REGION in Greece which is where Alexander the great is from. Macedonia then stole the name and Greece didn’t like that so recently, the country Macedonia was changed to North Macedonia
