The Toyota Yaris Cross is proof that there's plenty of life in hybrids yet. Well, it’s all about diversification and keeping the cash coming in, and it’s not just high-end luxury and performance brands that are having to adapt. More mainstream manufacturers such as Toyota are also expanding their product portfolios, with the Japanese automaker beginning to introduce its range of new bZ-badged all-electric vehicles and eking out extra value from its existing model lines. The Yaris Cross compact SUV is an example of the latter approach; based on the same TNGA platform as the regular Yaris, it sits alongside the standard supermini and the performance GR model on the Toyota price list. As Nicola Hume finds out, the compact SUV is one of the most fuel efficient around, and could be a great stop-gap for those waiting to go all-electric. Fantastic car
Get the new honda civic 50mpg and i don’t hang about. Sports mode all day
would've loved it if we had this in Canada
The best comes right at the end of Nicola's fine review at jDT0oibqaqY&t=7m42s 7:42 🤫
"Maybe have a cheeky little look at the Yaris cross" But... then immediately a mouse click on the right side. Take a good look at the Honda Jazz review and more importantly: take a good look at both cars in real life. After an extensive test drive in the Yaris and the Honda Jazz, we ended up (very convinced) in the... Jazz.
After a year and a half still very happy with that choice: The Honda Jazz is BRILLIANT! 👍Average consumption⛽over nearly 17 months (tracked on Spritmonitor): 61.9 mpg.
Nothing wrong with CVT transmission. We had a Civic Hybrid, and now have a Yaris Hybrid and a Lexus hybrid, all with CVT.
We've been more than happy with them. For some reason, car reviewers don't like them. Strange !
I prefer a proper handbrake rather than the catch you pull up, as it's either on or off. Try pulling it when you are driving and
wheels will lock up.
Hybrid electric power is FREE, and doesn’t take your time to find a charge point…vastly superior to plug ins
how can the puma compete with zero petrol use in towns …. yaris is a no brainer choice
I love my 2019 Yaris but night driving is difficult as the headlights are sh........ Getting them checked out next week. I get between 75 and 80 mpg.
I have had a yaris cross for the last 7 months, just to share my experience, it is a good car, the only drawback might be the HP of the engine, it has 116hp, it may not be enough for a quick move or racing, specially in uphill. But it is a great economical car!
I had one as a loan car and was staggered how good it was.
Do we know how much of a hit the AWD MPG takes compared to the FWD model?
I swapped my Yaris Hybrid for a Yaris Cross about a month ago and I hate it. It is nowhere near as economical as the Yaris hybrid. I slightly bigger enginge hauling a much bigger car around.... do the maths. The Hybrid system does not kick in anywhere near as often as it did on the smaller hybrid.
Nope. EVs are quieter and smoother. They have a lower cost of ownership. They have regenerative braking. You can charge them at home, overnight. They don't leak fluids on the road. They can be powered with renewable energy.
I was already planning to get a corolla cross. Until I found this. 60-70 mpg is a winner for me
Too small, too slow and not enough interior space...
Not ready to go electric... Most people never want to go electric and we all know that there are massive flaws on this EV idea...
I drive a 2016 Audi allroad quatro 3.0 V6 diesel which takes 5 minutes to fully "charge" for £100, does 55 mpg and 800 miles on one "charge."
ULES (Ultra Low Emission Scam) compliant. It has a far smaller carbon footprint than any EV, cost quarter of what a TESLA does, has far superior build quality and doesn’t sound like a milk float or look like a duck. It can also be "charged" at over 8'300 stations throughout the UK which are all completely compatible with the car, safe in the knowledge that no children were used as slave labour in African mines mining rare Earth metals to build my car!
Any EV owner want a race from London to Edinburgh and back?
Does anyone in Australia have car parts for my Auto altise/limited edition 2006. The internal colour is carbon grey. And the rear stop centre light I need.
that's goin to be one of the ugliest Toyota i've ever seen in a modern era... in my opinion of course.
And electricity 60-90 cnt kWh, if isn`t banned for cars like in Swiss.😬 In gas is 9 kWh/L. In winter heating is free from internal combustion engines. For blackouts, you can`t storage elecricity. Hybrid is better choice than full electric.
